Plastics begin as crude oil or natural gas. Refineries crack these into ethylene and propylene — the chemical building blocks of every synthetic polymer that will eventually touch your food, skin, and lungs.

Four stages of AI-driven analysis. One goal: material-level clarity
about what surrounds you.
PurePath's camera pipeline captures detailed images of your surfaces, reading cues like sheen, texture, and wear patterns to flag material types and signs of degradation.
A computer vision model trained on 2.4 million labeled surface images compares your scan against a library of common household materials — flagging types like non-stick coatings, PVC, and synthetic fibers that are associated with known chemical and microplastic exposure risks.
Flagged materials are weighted by exposure research, surface condition, and your usage habits to produce a personalised Risk Score for each item in your environment.
Results feed directly into PurePath's Safe Swap engine, which generates a ranked, room-by-room replacement plan — prioritising your highest-risk items first and tracking your Purity Score over time.

SECTION 06 — WHY WE BUILT THIS
PurePath didn't start in a lab. It started with a podcast and a test kit.
Like a lot of people, we heard Dr. Shanna Swan — the environmental epidemiologist behind Count Down — break down the research on microplastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals on The Joe Rogan Experience (episode #2476). The takeaway was hard to ignore: these materials are in our homes, our food, and increasingly, our bodies.
So one of us ordered an at-home microplastics test — and the result was a wake-up call. It raised the obvious question: if it's showing up in me, where in my home is it actually coming from?
There was no simple way to answer that. So we started building one. PurePath is our attempt to turn that anxiety into something practical — a way to look at the everyday objects around you, understand the material risks, and make better swaps at your own pace.
